P.M.B. 1578 Avu/Owerri West
Imo State - Nigeria

Nigeria lies in West Africa, and since the beginning of 1999, after almost thirty years of military dictatorship, a democratically-elected government has finally been voted in by the Nigerian people. Sense of democracy is gradually been felt in Nigeria again.

Owerri is a large town in the south-east of Nigeria, about one and a half hours by car from Port Harcourt, on the Atlantic coast, where Nigeria's oil reserves are located.

Avu is a small village, nestled amongst long-established palm trees, near to Owerri (ten minutes away by car). The clinic lies on the edge of the village, in a quiet spot, surrounded by it's own farmland. There is a tarred road up to the clinic, a bus-stop, and connected electricity and water supplies.

The climate is tropical. The rainy season is from June until September, when there is cooling fresh air and it can rain several times a day. From October to January it is hot, and February to May it is extremely hot, but at night and early in the mornings it is always cooler.
