WHAT IS REIKI ?

Reiki -The Usui System of Natural Healing

Reiki is a Japanese expression meaning "universal life energy" and the same time it is a method in which the universal life energy can be passed on, through the laying-on of hands, in order to strengthen our own powers of self-healing. Reiki was rediscovered in Japan in the 19th century by Dr. Mikao Usui.

Reiki is not connected to any ideology or religion, and is not used to heal particular symptoms either, rather it treats the body as a whole. Reiki often works on a psychological-emotional level, where the root causes of illnesses and ailments, weaknesses and problems lie. It is frequently used to complement medical treatments and therapies.
 

Reiki is activated in someone through a process of attunements given by a Reiki Master. A person who has received Reiki attunements can use Reiki on themselves or on others, and even on animals and plants.

Reiki in Nigeria

Reiki was introduced to Nigeria in January 1992, when Ikechukwu S. Omenka, along with his wife, was leading a Reiki tour-group through his homeland. The group members got to know many local people, and experienced first-hand their warmth,

the richness of their inner-spirits and their talent of coping with their day-to-day hardships: increasing poverty, illness and suppression. Through these personal experiences, the idea for a Reiki clinic in Nigeria was born, and along with it, the chance of helping the people to become self-sufficient.
From 1993, Reiki has been taught to Nigerian people, and in July 1999 the Reiki clinic in Nigeria was opened. Since then, there has also been a Nigerian Reiki Master living locally in Owerri, and he helps to further organise and over-see the development of the clinic. The newest addition to the clinic has been the orphanage and the education project for children.
